Most of my ideas belonged to other people who never bothered to develop them.

Creative minds have the ability to imagine or invent something new by combining, changing or reapplying existing ideas.

I don't force it. If you don't have an idea and you don't hear anything going over and over in your head, don't sit down and try to write a song. You know, go mow the lawn...My songs speak for themselves.

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things.

If you want to hire great people and have them stay, you have to be run by ideas, not hierarchy. The best ideas have to win.

I leave the genre labeling to other people. I really do. If I were to think too hard about it, that would stifle you creatively. If you think too hard about who other people want you to be as an artist, it stops you from being who you want to be as an artist.
