Young men and women are to build up a strong character. A nation's greatness was reflected in the character of the people. If it was sullied by selfishness, such a people could not prosper or achieve great things. Selfishness had its place in life as everyone had to look to his own needs and that of his family, but it could not made the be-all and end-all of life.

Independence means that the Turkish nation will live as an honorable nation. That is the basis for everything.

Great anger and violence can never build a nation.

It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and, at no distant period, a great nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence.

Hope, in its stronger forms, is a great deal more powerful stimulans to life than any sort of realized joy can ever be.

We can't encourage narrow-mindedness, for no nation can be great whose people are narrow in thought.
