Negroes hold only one key to the double lock of peaceful change. The other is in the hands of the white community.

The comfortable, the entrenched, the privileged cannot continue to tremble at the prospect of change in the status quo.

Power properly understood is nothing but the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political and economic change.

I do not wish to minimize the complexity of the problems to be faced in achieving disarmament and peace. But we shall not have the courage, the insight, to deal with such matters unless we are prepared to undergo a mental and spiritual change.

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.

We stand in life at midnight; we are always on the threshold of a new dawn.
