When you are eighty years old and, in a quiet moment of reflection, narrating for only yourself the mostpersonal version of your life story, the telling that will be most compact and meaningful will be the series of choices you have made.In the end, we are our choices. I'm so proud of that team, and I know for a fact when I'm eighty or, let's say-I always project myself forward to age eighty, but as I get older, I'm starting to do ninety-so I know that when I'm ninety, it's going to be one of the things I'm most proud of, that I took on the Washington Post and helped it through a very rough transition.

We love America. Why are we proud? We are proud, first of all, because from the beginning of this nation, a man can walk upright, no matter who he is, or who she is. He can walk upright and meet his friend - or his enemy; and he does not fear that because that enemy may be in a position of great power that he can be suddenly thrown in jail to rot there without charges and with no recourse to justice. We have the habeas corpus act and we respect it.

The time comes in the life of any nation when there remain only two choices - submit or fight. That time has now come to South Africa. We shall not submit and we have no choice but to hit back by all means in our power in defence of our people, our future, and our freedom.

Getting drunk, you're in complete control up to a point. It's your choice, every time you take a sip. You have a lot of small choices. It's like, I guess it's the difference between suicide and slow capitulation.
