Once you are so unfortunate as to be drawn into a war, no price is too great to pay for an early and victorious peace.

There is no merit in putting off a war for a year if, when it comes, it is far worse or much harder to win.

In War: Resolution. In Defeat: Defiance. In Victory: Magnanimity. In Peace: Good Will.

Those who can win a war well can rarely make a good peace, and those who could make a good peace would never have won the war.

In the days and in the years that are to come we shall work for a just and honorable peace, a durable peace, as today we work and fight for total victory in war. We can and we will achieve such a peace.

As we have triumphed, so we may be merciful; as we are strong, so we can afford to be generous.
