In recent centuries, millions of people came to this land to pursue their dream of building a future in freedom. We, the people of this continent, are not fearful of foreigners, because most of us were once foreigners. I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descended from immigrants.

We want them [immigrants] to come into our country very much. We need people to help us, with all of these companies that are coming in. We've never had anything like this. We have car companies coming in. We have Foxconn - so involved with the manufacturing of Apple products - coming in in Wisconsin. We have a lot of companies coming in, but they have to apply, and they have to be wonderful people who are going to love our country and work hard.

It's our right as a sovereign nation to choose immigrants that we think are the likeliest to thrive and flourish and love us.

I only want to admit individuals into our country who will support our values and love our people. Anyone who endorses violence, hatred or oppression is not welcome in our country and never will be.

They are children, women and men who leave or who are forced to leave their homes for various reasons, who share a legitimate desire for knowing and having, but above all for being more.

We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.
