The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but the Pope has the duty, in Christ's name, to remind the rich to help the poor, to respect them, to promote them.

Let your heart feel for the afflictions and distress of everyone, and let your hand give in proportion to your purse.

It's a good thing to help a friend whenever you can; but individual acts of hospitality are not the answer. Those who want to wipe out poverty from the face of the earth must use other weapons, weapons other than kindness.

Capital punishment is as fundamentally wrong as a cure for crime as charity is wrong as a cure for poverty.

I believe that in the end that it is kindness and accommodation that are all the catalysts for real change.

A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and, when they cannot do so anymore, to care for them.
