Back then people closed their eyes and listened to music. Today there's a lot of images that go with the music. A lot of music is crap and it's all commercial and the images are all trying to sell the record.

We would never have gained the attention without a major label throughout the world initially. I just got tired of them taking all the money.

I'll go to the movies and hear 'Angel From Montgomery' in some film, and nobody ever even told me about it. They don't tell you your stuff is going to be in a movie. They don't have to, so they don't tell you. You get paid eventually.

A lot of 'em are falling or getting ready to because all kinds of things. Mainly the distributors are getting bought up. And you're doing good if you're supporting yourself with an independent label, Right now, you're doing excellent.

The stores and the things like that, the business side of things came out at the point when, I'd say probably in the early '70s, it looked like the year of the singer-songwriter was over, 'cause music changed in our time and the spotlight was out.
