People who are liberals look upon the principles of Marxism as abstract dogma. They approve of Marxism, but they are not prepared to practice it in full; they are not prepared to replace their liberalism by Marxism.

The exemplary vanguard role of the Communists is of vital importance. Communists in the Eighth Route and New Fourth Armies should set an example in fighting bravely, carrying out orders, observing discipline, doing political work and fostering internal unity and solidarity.

Without revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement.

We conserve nothing; neither do we want to return to any past periods; we are not by any means liberal; we do not work for progress; we do not need to plug up our ears against the sirens who in the market place sing of the future: their song about equal rights, a free society, no more masters and no servants has no allure for us.

As we know, the goal of every struggle is victory. But if the proletariat is to achieve victory, all the workers, irrespective of nationality, must be united. Clearly, the demolition of national barriers and close unity between the Russian, Georgian, Armenian, Polish, Jewish and other proletarians is a necessary condition for the victory of the proletariat of all Russia.

We cannot walk alone. And as we walk we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.
