Young men and women are to build up a strong character. A nation's greatness was reflected in the character of the people. If it was sullied by selfishness, such a people could not prosper or achieve great things. Selfishness had its place in life as everyone had to look to his own needs and that of his family, but it could not made the be-all and end-all of life.

All the historic precedents, the soaring graphs, the staggering statistics - these measure size more than substance. And the largeness and greatness of our nation would be almost a mockery - without a matching greatness of heart and largeness of vision as we look out upon the world.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.

Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service.

I hold that the more helpless a creature the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of humankind.
