Jesus is eternally right. History is replete with the bleached bones of nations that refused to listen to him.

Being a disciple means being constantly ready to bring the love of Jesus to others, and this can happen unexpectedly and in any place: on the street, in a city square, during work, on a journey.

Joy cannot be held at heel: it must be let go. Joy is a pilgrim virtue. It is a gift that walks, walks on the path of life, that walks with Jesus: preaching, proclaiming Jesus, proclaiming joy, lengthens and widens that path.

It comes to us from the long Christian tradition, Jesus of Nazareth himself, coming down through Mahatma Gandhi of India, who took the love ethic of Jesus Christ and made it effective as a sociopolitical force and brought about the transformation of a great nation and achieved freedom for his people.

Let us all remember this: one cannot proclaim the Gospel of Jesus without the tangible witness of one's life.

From first to last, Jesus is the same; always the same - majestic and simple, infinitely severe and infinitely gentle.
