Inside the walls of a prison my body may be, but my Lord has set my soul free.

The things that make us proud to be Americans are of the soul and of the spirit. They are not the jewels we wear, or the furs we buy, the houses we live in, the standard of living, even, that we have. All these things are wonderful to the esthetic and to the physical senses.

As long as your body is healthy and under control and death is distant, try to save your soul; when death is immanent what can you do?

I have not sought during my life to amass wealth and to adorn my body, but I have sought to adorn my soul with the jewels of wisdom, patience, and above all with a love of liberty.

Your naked body should only belong to those who fall in love with your naked soul.

Your soul will be dead even before your body: fear nothing further.
