The education I received was a British education, in which British ideas, British culture, British institutions, were automatically assumed to be superior. There was no such thing as African culture.

Our second task is to do the constructive work of building a genuine peace. We must never become so preoccupied with our desire for military strength that we neglect those areas of economic development, trade, diplomacy, education, ideas and principles where the foundations of real peace must be laid.

We must learn to love, learn to be kind, and this from the earliest youth; if education or chance give us no opportunity to practice these feelings, our soul becomes dry and unsuited even to understanding the tender inventions of loving people.

We cannot even reproduce our thoughts entirely in words.

What is the task of higher education? To make a man into a machine. What are the means employed? He is taught how to suffer being bored.

Words are but symbols for the relations of things to one another and to us; nowhere do they touch upon absolute truth.
