The Democratic Party will live and continue to receive the support of the majority of Americans just so long as it remains a liberal party.

It is the self-reliant pioneer in every enterprise who beats the path along which American civilization has marched. Such individual effort is the glory of America.

To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit. It is inimical to the dictates of sound policy. It is in violation of the traditions of America.

The conscience of America revolts against war and that any Nation which provokes war forfeits the sympathy of the people of the United States.

Different from a great part of the world, we in America persist in our belief in individual enterprise and in the profit motive.

We in America know that our own democratic institutions can be preserved and made to work.
