When you see a rattlesnake poised to strike, you do not wait until he has struck to crush him.

You know, I am a juggler and I never let my right hand know what my left hand does. I may have one policy for Europe and one diametrically opposite for North and South America. I may be entirely inconsistent, and furthermore, I am perfectly willing to mislead and tell untruths if it will help win the war.

In remembering the appalling suffering of war on both sides, we recognise how precious is the peace we have built in Europe since 1945.

It is the last territorial claim which I have to make in Europe, but it is the claim from which I will not recede and which, God-willing, I will make good.

Remember we shall never stop, never weary, and never give in, and that our whole people and Empire have vowed themselves to the task of cleansing Europe from the Nazi pestilence and saving the world from the new Dark Ages.

We must be united, we must be undaunted, we must be inflexible. Our qualities and deeds must burn and glow through the gloom Europe until they become the veritable beacon oits salvation.
