We praise or blame as one or the other affords more opportunity for exhibiting our power of judgement.

Remember that only God can judge us; forget the haters, because Somebody loves you.

Undeserved praise causes more pangs of conscience later than undeserved blame, but probably only for this reason, that our power of judgment are more completely exposed by being over praised than by being unjustly underestimated.
