Impossible is a word to be found only in the dictionary of fools. Wise people create opportunities for themselves and make everything possible.

The truest wisdom is a resolute determination.

I am not willing that the vitality of our people be further sapped by the giving of cash, of market baskets, of a few hours of weekly work cutting grass, raking leaves or picking up papers in the public parks. We must preserve not only the bodies of the unemployed from destitution but also their self-respect, their self-reliance and courage and determination.

We do not retreat. We are not content to stand still. As Americans, we go forward, in the service of our country, by the will of God.

Eight years ago, when the life of this Republic seemed frozen by a fatalistic terror, we proved that this is not true. We were in the midst of shock - but we acted. We acted quickly, boldly, decisively.
